Community Service Jan 26

Show up ready to sew for others.
We have lots to do and even if you only have a short amount of time there is someway you can contribute.

Because we want to get as much done as possible Carmen has asked that you save any show and tell for the next week.  We know you are excited to share but it's important to use Community Service day to get as much done as possible!

Quilt of Valor Workshop

Jan 19
Marianne Hampton will be leading us in a new QOV with a "kit" ready to sew.
If you don't want to sew Jera has the most recent quilt ready to baste so you can do that as well.

The QOV have been so successful because everyone pitches in and does a little bit so the quilts come together quickly and are off to those Freedom Keepers who need to know we appreciate their service.

Dresden ruler I have two so if you don’t you can use mine if you don’t have one.
For ideas and pictures of what we are doing Google: Dresden Neighborhood quilt.

Welcome to 2016 and a New Friends new year!

First of all we have a new President Lana Osmun and she has chosen a great board to assist her through the year.  It takes more that one person to corral our group  and that's the job of the board of directors.
Second we will be doing a block of the month this year from Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage book.  There was an order placed late last year but if you didn't get in on that you can check places like Amazon or Connecting Threads (40% off today) or Fat Quarter Quilts online.
Such cute and mostly easy blocks...and the fabrics are all up to you!  I hope someone uses batiks or hand dyes for these blocks as I think it would be very striking.
Click on the large names for a link to the store mentioned.

January blocks are 54 and 60 the Cherries and the Strawberry.  notice that the strawberry has multiple pink fabrics but of course being your project maybe you will want reds instead.  Whatever you choose will be great.

Then we are continuing on with the Quilt of Valor project and Jan 19 will be our next day to sew for those who served for our freedoms.

Carmen will continue with our Community service days the last Tuesday of the month as we finish up past projects and begin some new ones for the year.  Don't miss out on this day each month.

Last but not least 2 fun challenges!
Carmen, in honor of our theme of Friendships, has something up her sleeve for us.  She handed out patterns for foundation paper pieced basket blocks for us to make, 3 of them, and more to come some time in the near future.  Pick up your pattern at the  Sr Center quilt room or Peggy will be emailing a PDF file for you to save on your computer and print your own.

Challenge #2 the group is invited to participate in a block lottery each month using the Moda Block Shuffle patterns.  Jill will be handing out a new pattern each month in Pleasant Grove at our meeting and if you want you will make a block (or Two) in the chosen color to be turned in at the next month's meeting in Pleasant Grove.
For every block you turn in you will get 1 chance at winning all the blocks!  So two blocks, two chances...get it?  You can pick up a copy in the quilt room.  This month's color is blue...any shade of blue you like.  Have fun and see if you can learn something new!
