UPDATE for Fall Table Runner NIGHT GROUP

I have successfully created a cut file for the Scan N Cut so that we can cut the word, pumpkin stem and vine.  If you have your fabric pre-fused or ready to fuse when you get there this will eliminate the tracing and cutting time for your project.

We will be doing the bottom one...Thankful

Thanksgiving Table Runner Class Sept 8

Night group will be doing another  table runner this time from the book
Table Please by Nancy Halverson.
The planned project is the "Thankful Runner" featuring a pieced pumpkin and a pretty scrolling "Thankful" word.
To save some time you might want to pre-cut and even pre-sew the half square triangle made from various orange fabrics.  Dig into your orange scraps for the pumpkin and for the scrappy border you will want 9 assorted fat eighths or 9- 1 1/2  inch strips about 12 inches long.
Peggy will have her Scan N Cut there for cutting the word "Thankful" and the pumpkin stem if you have your fabrics ready for cutting.  The directions call for a fat quarter of dark purple for the word and a darkish green for the pumkin stem.

Look for more info to come.

Don't forget the leaf challenge project...it can be big or small and whatever design you wish.  Hopefully we can get some new inspiration for fall projects.

It's Cabin Time for Night Group

We will be enjoying a wonderful afternoon at Tonya Radley’s cabin this Saturday, August 22. We will meet at Harmon’s on 8th North in Orem at 12:30 to carpool to her cabin in Provo Canyon. If you will be driving alone and coming at some other time, please email Tonya for directions (tradl@digis.net).

We will have a potluck meal about 1 p.m., and then spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying the beauty of the area, visiting, and (if you feel inclined to) working on handwork projects of your own. It will be a great day and we hope to see you.

Please respond to Peggy so we will know how many to expect at Harmon’s.

Community Service

We love the projects that allow you to give back.
Make sure to be at the quilt room bright and early at 10 AM to work on our community service project lead by Carmen.
You know it will be a heart warming day.

Reminders for Tuesday August 11

It's a fast moving summer and heading into Fall isn't it?

New Friends, day group, will be learning our August blocks of the month.  Barbara Douglas will be teaching.  Hope you have been keeping up with the blocks with only 8 more blocks to do.

Night group will be continuing on with the project If the Hat Fits...Linda has emailed us the following
Some suggestions for our class on Tuesday, August 11
1.  Please read “General Craziness”, page 10 in your book before you come.  It will help you understand what we will be doing.
2.  Put a new rotary cutting blade in your rotary cutter.
3.  Bring a large, unused 18” x 18” pizza box to put your pieces in to take home.  I think Costco has a large pizza box.  If you can’t find one let me know and I will see if I can get some.
4.  Bring 9 fat quarters as explained in the book and your freezer paper patterns.
Note:  My daughters cut 9 fat quarters and then each took 3 witches to make a table runner or skinny wall hanging.  They turned out cute.

Quilter's NIght Out Idea

During the quilt show Cathie D showed this project possibility for Quilter's Night Out in October.

The pattern is free offered on Fat Quarter Quilt Shop's blog for download but halfway through August, the 14th to be precise the pattern will no longer be free.
So, may I suggest you head over to HERE
and download your directions...even if you aren't sure you will want to make it as a small wall hanging you can do anything you want once you have it.
Maybe a long table runner or a throw quilt.
Add more blocks or add different blocks.
We will NOT be doing kits but you can make your own kit from your stash or new fun fabrics.
Just wanted to give a head's up!

...Fabric is more than fabric.

We acquire fabric not just for it's beauty-there

are many things out there we don't feel

compelled to stash- Fabric comes with

POSSIBILITIES, Dreams and Visions!

It has the potential to spark our creativity,it's

a seed planted to grow into something

wonderful.

Quilts are more than the sum of their parts

when we grow a quilt- we grow ourselves.

A quilt may last longer on this earth than

we will.

All hands on deck!
We will be hanging the quilts for the show Tuesday July 7 starting at 10 Am!

Night group will be hanging the ribbons on Wednesday July 8 7 Pm...be the first to see who wins the ribbons.

June 30 2015

We will be accepting quilts for the Steel Days Quilt Show at the quilt room from 10 AM to Noon and then again 7PM to 9PM.
There will be plenty of jobs for making this process run smoothly and a chance to see the quilts for the show close up!

Spread the word among your quilting friends for this community show.  Remind them that you don't have to have your quilt judged to have it hung in the show.  You can bring your Leader Ender display projects and also your baby quilts too.

Quilter's Night Out

October seems very far away until you start counting the weeks and months...
4 Months!
October 16
We want to encourage all New Friends to plan for this special evening...leave the men, boys and kids (grandkids) at home and have a wonderful night of sewing pot luck food and laughter with all your sewing buddies!

June 23 Community Service

Yep, Community Service day will be a week early to accommodate quilt show receiving day...
So, that means that you will have approx a week and a half to finish up your quilts for the show.

Also don't forget about your baby quilt challenge too!  There are still a few fat quarters in the quilt room that could be made into a sweet quilt for a baby who has to stay in the hospital for treatment.

There are still eye-spy quilts to be finished and maybe labels to be added to baby quilts.
Also you can donate bags and supplies for our House of Hope project and of course place mats or mug rugs for our Meals on Wheels project too.

Wheww!  Thanks for all your hard work in making the world a little softer with quilts!

Mini/Small Quilts Help Day

Because the cost of materials and machine quilting to offer a full sized Opportunity quilt for a fund raising project is exceeding the money we have been collecting, last fall the board voted to try something new for the 2016 fundraiser.
MINI/SMALL Quilts!
Here's how it will go...
As small groups or as individuals we will make at least 6 quilts to be offered as our fund raiser project.
When they are ready for display, each quilt will be given a number and there will be a corresponding envelope or box with the same number.
Tickets will still be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5
The buyer of the tickets will have the option of which quilt(s) they would like to try and win by putting their tickets into the corresponding envelope or box.  There will be no limit to how many tickets the person may put on an individual quilt...
At the end of the fund raising period (to be determined by the board) one ticket will be drawn from each envelope/box as the winner.  As an option a second ticket could be drawn just in case the "winner" never returns the "you have won" call.
The board will decide on how long the "winner" has to respond to the call from the drawing.

If you don't have a group to work with come and see if you can join others.  Of course, you have the option to do one on your own or not at all.
If you have some ideas to share bring them on Tuesday...books, patterns or magazines we can check them all out!

Picnic in the Park Fun

As we all expected the day in Robinson park was a huge success.  Of course we missed those who weren't able to be with us but it was a lovely day, not too hot or cold, plenty of good friends and yummy food!
Carmen explained the purpose of the half square triangles we sewed in to itty bitty "quilts" in black and white.  They will be used to help entertain children (or those who aren't excited about the quilt show as their companions) with a challenge to use the squares to recreate blocks from cards that have been prepared ahead of time.
A little bit of show and tell was also done and reminders for the baby quilt challenge and upcoming show in July.

Picnic in the Park

How, fun it's that time again for our yearly Picnic in the Park pot luck.

We will meet under the picnic shelter in Robinson Park ( right outside our doors) near the library.
Everyone will bring a pot luck item of your choice and a serving spoon, spatula or whatever you need to serve with.  We will provide plates, napkins, eating utensils and water.
Because the grass is often watered in the morning we strongly suggest a towel too!
You may bring a chair if you wish or you can plan on sitting on the benches.

Our hand project will be turning and closing the black and white half square triangles that were given in a kit during our May 19 meeting.  If you didn't get one that's OK, we will have plenty to share.
Here is a step by step for how to do the half square triangle game pieces in the kits.
Sorry it wasn't posted earlier but that is how life goes sometimes.
Hope it helps you out!

It seems everyone except Joann and Janine B did so we will be repeating the workshop.

And of course don't forget your paper foundation pieced flying geese to help us finish up our Quilt of Valor donation quilt.

Day Group Block of the Month May

Click HERE for the May blocks of the month info!

Night Group May 12 Tumblers

From Janine!

Hi!

I will be teaching a Tumbler Tablerunner on May 12.  You can choose a 2" block or a 4" finished block. Two pictures are attached showing the 2 size blocks.  They also have different layouts but either one can be used.
Supplies:
      Sewing machine and basic supplies
Scraps or fat quarters of how many different Fabrics you want to use
      Border fabric

I am bringing a Big Shot Cutting Machine which will cut the fabric tumbler blocks and either 1" or 2" wide borders.  Just bring fabric and we can cut  the blocks out there.  Some of you may even get a tablerunner top almost done!

We will have fun!

Janine
